I have been under consultation with Private ADHD for about 2 months now. I have found that it has helped me in coping with my ADHD symptoms and have benefited from the one on one consultations with my assigned Doctor. It has helped me so much that I can talk to someone who can understand how I feel and give sound advice on how to cope with my anxieties and concerns. and prescribe medications to help achieve this. To have waited for any sort of diagnosis through the NHS would have taken years...

Dr Pav was excellent. Calm, clear, and very easy to talk to! He made the assessment feel comfortable and thorough, and I really appreciated how well he explained everything. I received my diagnosis the same day, and the whole process was smooth and supportive from start to finish. Angel was fantastic, so kind and responsive, which really helped ease my nerves beforehand. I'd absolutely recommend Dr Pav and PrivateADHD to anyone and everyone who will listen to me!

ADHD Assessment FAQs

A few of our frequently asked questions about assessments

What is the assessment for ADHD?

FAQ arrow

ADHD assessments typically involve a series of evaluations to determine if an individual meets the DSM criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. These assessments can include interviews with the individual, their parents or caregivers, and teachers to gather information about symptoms and behaviours. Additionally, questionnaires and rating scales may be used to assess the severity of symptoms and their impact on daily functioning. Other assessments, such as cognitive neuropsychology testing and behavioural observations, may also be carried out to provide a comprehensive understanding of the individual's difficulties. Overall, the assessment process for ADHD aims to accurately diagnose the condition and develop an appropriate treatment plan to help manage symptoms effectively.

What does an ADHD assessment for adults involve?

FAQ arrow

An ADHD assessment for adults typically involves thoroughly reviewing the individual's medical history, symptoms, and behaviour patterns. It may include self-report questionnaires, interviews with family members or significant others, and cognitive testing to assess areas such as attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.

Is an ADHD assessment available in the UK?

FAQ arrow

How long is an assessment?

FAQ arrow

The booking process and initial questionnaire should only take a few minutes. What happens if I'm diagnosed with ADHD?

FAQ arrow

If you are diagnosed with ADHD, you will receive a proposed treatment plan along with options tailored to your diagnosis, as well as an information pack outlining the next steps for implementing your treatment plan.

What if I decide to take medication?

FAQ arrow

For adults with ADHD, treatment often includes stimulant medications such as Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta) and Amphetamine-based drugs (Adderall, Vyvanse). These medications help improve focus, attention, and impulse control and are usually prescribed in higher doses compared to those for children. Non-stimulant options like Atomoxetine (Strattera) are also available, particularly for adults who have additional conditions like anxiety or heart issues.

ADHD titration involves starting with the lowest dose of ADHD medication and gradually increasing it. It may take up to a week to notice a difference in your symptoms when taking the medication.

It’s common to have a few side effects with ADHD medication, but titration is how we avoid this by gradually increasing the dose. Some side effects are reduced appetite, weight loss, transient blood pressure increases, headaches and trouble sleeping.

How much does ADHD medication cost?
FAQ arrow

Medication is recommended as the first-line treatment in ADHD for adults and certain age groups in childrenwith clinically significant impairment in their life (NICE, 2008). Any medication must be considered carefully along with any health concerns or other issues that would contraindicate a trial of medication. Taking into account your diagnosis and symptoms, consideration of a trial of medication may be appropriate to determine whether this would assist you with your ADHD symptoms. Medications have been found to improve attention span, task completion and self-organisation, whilst reducing impulsivity, distractibility, and restlessness.

Please find a video link here on medications and ADHD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcTXHy35nWE If you have concerns about taking medications for ADHD, you will have the opportunity to discuss this withan ADHD Specialist. There are many myths about treatment. Treatment carries fewer risks than not taking treatment. Please find a useful video discussing common myths around ADHD medication: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCIT0YbNSCU Life with unrecognised ADHD often leads to mental health problems. It is important to consider the impact of these as well as ADHD on wellbeing. Safety Notice: ADHD medications can sometimes be unsafe for individuals with pre-existing heart conditions. Therefore, an interim evaluation, such as an ECG, may be required from your GP (you will be advised if you need these investigations). "I have been suffering from a significant number of ADHD symptoms as a child, which worsened over the years. This convinced me to get assessed for ADHD privately, as the NHS waiting list is extremely long (up to 4 years for an assessment).

I liked how he intensively explained what causes ADHD, how ADHD runs in families, and such. Finally, as someone who has ADHD, he completely understands the debilitating and crippling effects ADHD has had on me academically, socially, and mentally throughout the years."
