Paloma Faith Finds Clarity with ADHD Diagnosis

Paloma Faith Finds Clarity With Adult ADHD Diagnosis

Paloma Faith, the London-born singer-songwriter known for hits like "Only Love Can Hurt Like This," recently opened up about her journey to a late-in-life diagnosis of ADHD—and how it has transformed her understanding of herself.

The revelation came just a year ago, after what she describes as "a whole life struggling with certain things" that never quite made sense until she finally received her diagnosis. "Lots of things start to add up," Paloma said, reflecting on the moment the pieces fell into place. For her, the assessment process was eye-opening: "They start asking you these questions and you're like, 'Oh my God, that's part of it as well!' I didn't even think that was part of it".

While some may shy away from diagnoses and labels, Paloma found hers liberating. "I found it really helpful," she explained. Suddenly, years of challenges and quirks gained new meaning, replacing confusion with clarity. In fact, Paloma believes that neurodiversity is common—even among her own circle—remarking, "It is proven that neurodivergents attract to each other so it's probably that everyone I know is neurodiverse".

Finding Purpose Through Music and Charity

Paloma's diagnosis has dovetailed with her passion for advocacy and inclusivity. She recently lent her voice to a new version of "Silent Night," titled "Silent Night, Gentle Light," performed alongside the Sky Kids Choir. Rather than the typical "bells and whistles" of a charity single, this rendition is sensitive to the needs of children on the autism spectrum—fittingly gentle and thoughtful. Royalties are being donated to Caudwell Children’s Charity, supporting neurodiverse young people.

The song accompanies the animated special "Ready Eddie Christmas!" on Sky Kids, following a six-year-old autistic boy named Eddie. This special—created with care by Nikki Saunders—rewrites the classic carol’s lyrics to showcase how festive traditions can become more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

For Paloma, the project's goal goes well beyond entertainment. "I just feel like it’s really nice for people to listen to so they can have a conversation and start maybe being a bit more open about their daily experiences—and not feeling like it means they’re weird or different in a bad way," she shared.

Christmas, Parenting, and Looking Ahead

Opening up about her personal life, Paloma describes her Christmas as embracing every role at home—Santa, chef, maid, cleaner—and doing it all with a spirit of joy. "I’m excited—more excited than my kids sometimes," she admits. "I love Christmas so much, it’s very suited to me and being a parent makes it even better".

Looking forward, Paloma teases new music and a podcast in the works for 2025, indicating that embracing her neurodiversity has paved the way for artistic growth and fresh creative energy.

Key Takeaway:
Paloma Faith’s story is a powerful reminder that understanding and accepting neurodiversity can offer clarity, relief, and even joy—no matter when the journey begins. Her voice, both in music and in candid conversation, continues to help others feel seen, understood, and celebrated.
