Our assessments are thorough and evidence-based, following the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria. Each assessment is carried out by a qualified psychologist or psychiatrist who will take the time to explore your symptoms, their duration, and any relevant insights from family members or close contacts.
This detailed approach allows us to accurately identify the type of ADHD you may have and any coexisting conditions, such as anxiety, depression, or mood disorders, that could influence your treatment plan.Every treatment plan we create is fully personalised — designed around your individual needs, lifestyle, and goals. Whether your care involves medication, therapy, coaching, or a combination of treatments, we’ll work closely with you to find the most effective path forward.
We also provide specialised support for parents and caregivers of children with ADHD, offering guidance on how to understand their child’s needs, manage symptoms at home and school, and confidently navigate the treatment process.
Our Step By Step Process
Book your full ADHD assessment
Visit our website to schedule an appointment for an ADHD assessment. During your private video appointment, the clinician will ask you questions, review your medical history, and write a report to diagnose ADHD. This usually takes about one hour, but it can be different for each person. Prior to the assessment, you will complete a simple onboarding questionnaire that contains a self-assessment and informant report. For children, we need additional secondary setting evidence, such as school reports or extracurricular activity/ tutor feedback.
Receive an official ADHD diagnosis
If you are diagnosed with ADHD, your approved doctors will provide personalised advice on how to manage your daily life. You will be provided with a detailed assessment report that can be shared with your GP and any relevant service, such as schools and employers, for reasonable adjustments. We also provide extenuating circumstances letters for those struggling with exams due to ADHD symptoms. They will create a treatment plan that fits your specific needs. This will likely include both psychoeducation and medication. The diagnosis will be documented in an official letter and added to your medical history.
Get your ADHD prescription
Your clinician can now write a prescription for medication on the same day as your diagnosis at no extra charge. In London, you may be able to have the prescription delivered on the same day. For other pharmacies, it could take up to 48 hours to arrive for the rest of the UK.
Have ADHD treatment follow-ups
At Private ADHD, we don't just stop after creating a treatment plan for you. We continue to support you with follow-up sessions monthly to titrate you to the optimum dosage of medication. On average, you might need about 3 follow-up sessions with no changes in medication before being considered stable and optimised, at which point we can continue prescribing and monitoring for a reduced price, or additional letters can be provided to your GP in hopes that they will agree to shared care, this depends on your area. This is to find the right medication or dosage that works for you, along with some holistic coaching around when to take your ADHD medication.
Proven Treatment Plans
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for ADHD in
Manchester
At Private ADHD, we offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as an effective, evidence-based approach to managing ADHD. CBT helps you understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are connected — and how to use that awareness to make practical, lasting changes.
How CBT Helps with ADHD
Living with ADHD often means dealing with distraction, impulsivity, and disorganisation. CBT focuses on building real-world skills rather than just talking about problems. It provides hands-on tools you can use immediately to improve focus, manage time, and reduce frustration.
Key Benefits:
Better organisation and time management
Improved focus and reduced distraction
Healthier thinking and emotional balance
Greater motivation and follow-through
How It Works
CBT teaches you to recognise unhelpful thoughts (like “I’ll never finish this”) and replace them with constructive strategies. You’ll also learn behavioural techniques — such as structuring routines and breaking tasks into steps — to strengthen focus and productivity.
What to Expect
- Structured, goal-focused sessions with practical exercises
- Homework between sessions to reinforce new skills
- Tailored support based on your needs and progress
Most CBT programmes last 12–15 sessions, depending on your goals. At Private ADHD, our therapists help you build lasting confidence, structure, and emotional resilience — empowering you to take control of your ADHD and thrive.
EMDR Therapy for ADHD in
Manchester
At Private ADHD, we offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as part of our holistic, evidence-based approach to ADHD treatment. Originally developed for trauma and PTSD, EMDR is now used to help people with ADHD heal emotional wounds, reduce shame, and build self-compassion.
Understanding EMDR for ADHD
Although ADHD isn’t caused by trauma, many individuals experience years of criticism, rejection, and misunderstanding, leading to low self-esteem and emotional stress. EMDR helps reprocess these experiences, reducing their emotional charge and fostering a more positive self-image.
Key Benefits:
Heals emotional wounds and reduces shame
Reframes negative beliefs and boosts self-esteem
Improves emotional regulation and resilience
Enhances focus and engagement in therapy
Why EMDR Helps People with ADHD
Those with ADHD often struggle with rejection sensitivity and self-critical thoughts. EMDR provides a gentle, structured process to reframe these experiences, helping individuals:
- React less emotionally to criticism or setbacks
- Develop a kinder, more confident self-view
- Strengthen emotional stability and stress management
What to Expect
Our therapists tailor EMDR to the needs of clients with ADHD, using shorter, focused sessions and grounding techniques to support engagement. Bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) helps reprocess distressing memories in a safe, guided way.
While EMDR doesn’t “cure” ADHD, it can greatly enhance emotional wellbeing, confidence, and self-understanding, complementing medical and psychological treatments.
At Private ADHD, we’re dedicated to helping you heal the emotional effects of ADHD and move forward with renewed clarity and confidence.
ADHD Medication in
Manchester
At Private ADHD, we understand that finding the right treatment for ADHD is a highly individual process. Medication can play a key role in managing symptoms and improving daily functioning — but it’s always part of a personalised treatment plan developed and monitored by an experienced clinician.
Benefits of ADHD Medication
Improve concentration and attention
Reduce impulsivity and hyperactivity
Regulate emotions more effectively
Enhance motivation and daily productivity
Types of ADHD Medication
- Stimulant medications are usually the first-line treatment. They work by increasing specific brain chemicals that help improve focus, attention, and impulse control. Available as tablets, capsules, liquids, or skin patches, stimulants typically last between 4 and 12 hours depending on the formulation.
- Non-stimulant medications may be prescribed if stimulants are not effective or cause unwanted side effects. They are often recommended for individuals who experience sleep difficulties, agitation, or anxiety with stimulant use.
- Antidepressants can sometimes be used, particularly when ADHD coexists with anxiety, depression, or mood disorders.
While medication doesn’t cure ADHD, it can make symptoms far more manageable — especially when combined with therapy, coaching, or behavioural strategies.
Because everyone responds differently, regular monitoring and follow-up are essential to find the most suitable medication and dosage. At Private ADHD, our clinicians work closely with each patient to ensure treatment is safe, effective, and tailored to their needs.
Wellbeing Strategies for ADHD in
Manchester
At Private ADHD, we emphasise the importance of holistic approaches to managing ADHD, including exercise and mindfulness, alongside medical and therapeutic treatments. Supporting your wellbeing can enhance focus, emotional regulation, and overall quality of life.
Exercise and ADHD
Regular physical activity has a significant impact on the ADHD brain. Exercise increases dopamine levels, which helps improve attention, motivation, and focus — areas often challenging for people with ADHD. Additionally, exercise triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” chemicals. Endorphins reduce stress and create a sense of euphoria and wellbeing, helping to improve mood and resilience.
Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness meditation is a powerful complementary approach that encourages individuals to pay deliberate attention to their thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations. For people with ADHD, mindfulness can:
Improve focus and attention control
Increase awareness of emotional states
Reduce impulsive reactions by promoting thoughtful responses
Enhance overall emotional regulation and self-awareness
By incorporating exercise and mindfulness into a broader treatment plan, individuals with ADHD can strengthen their cognitive control, emotional balance, and daily functioning, creating a foundation for long-term wellbeing.
At Private ADHD, we support patients in combining these strategies with therapy, coaching, and medication to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Child ADHD Assessments
Our assessment and therapy services for ADHD cater to children aged 6 to 18. Whether online or in-person, our experienced, professional, and welcoming clinicians provide NHS and NICE-compliant assessments using the DSM-5 at the same level of expertise and care as they do for adults. We pride ourselves on going above and beyond and allowing you to unlock the true potential of ADHD living to the fullest.
ADHD in children involves challenges with focus, hyperactivity, and impulsive behaviour. Common signs include trouble paying attention, daydreaming, difficulty following instructions, and making careless mistakes in schoolwork. Children with ADHD may also be overly active, frequently fidgeting, talking a lot, and having a hard time staying still. Impulsivity can lead to interrupting others, acting without thinking, and difficulty waiting their turn.
These behaviours can impact a child’s school performance, social interactions, and overall well-being. Recognising these signs early and seeking support is important for managing ADHD effectively. While the challenges and requirements are usually different for children than adults, Private ADHD provides quality care for all ages.

Symptoms of ADHD & ADHD Test
If you are asking yourself, do I have ADHD? We offer a free ADHD quiz. Use our symptom tests to quickly determine if you have common adult symptoms. Click the button below to be taken to the ADHD symptom test.
It’s important to note there are three subtypes of ADHD: inattentive subtype and hyperactive subtype (sometimes called inattentive subtype or hyperactive/impulsive ADHD). Hyperactive ADHD has symptoms such as fidgeting and restlessness. This type, most of the time, is found in children with ADHD, but it's rarer in adults. Inattentive ADHD is less obvious and less likely to be diagnosed till later in life.
The third type of ADHD is the combined type. Most commonly, the combined type of ADHD features both Inattentive+ hyperactive and impulse. Some people experience a dominant subtype, such as an inattentive dominant subtype. Combined ADHD is also the most common form of ADHD, as over 90% of people will experience combined ADHD.
These are some of the common ADHD symptoms you may be experiencing on a day-to-day basis.
Difficulty focusing and paying attention
Forgetting important tasks
Struggle with organisation
Distracting thoughts
Poor time management
Not completing sequential tasks such as laundry and life admin
Task switching to dopamine-rich tasks
‘Doom scrolling’ and seeking dopamine-rich tasks
Holistic Treatment For Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
ADHD has a strong genetic link, and people who suffer from it have a difference in their neurobiological makeup. This means their brain is built differently. Functional MRI has shown that the prefrontal cortex area of the brain, which is responsible for executive functioning (your brain’s CEO), has less dopamine. Medication works by increasing the dopamine uptake in this area. There have been lots of stigmas around ADHD historically and many myths. Some myths say that ADHD is a ‘made-up’ mental disorder. Others say that people who suffer from ADHD need to ‘try harder’ or are lazy. All are incorrect. Around 70% of those with ADHD struggle with paying attention, whilst less than 5% of neurotypical suffer from this.
At Private ADHD Assessment, we believe in both medicated and holistic treatment plans for ADHD patients. Combined with medication, a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising are all highly beneficial. Just as with taking care of our physical health, mental health care is vital to living a fulfilling, healthy, and happy life.
The easiest way to describe things is that ADHD is like having a brain that is similar to a Ferrari but in the wrong gear; if you constantly rev the engine with racing ideas and thoughts, you can burn the engine out. The medication and treatment allow you to harness the power of ADHD and achieve the potential of ADHDpreneurs such as Richard Branson and Bill Gates. Over 40% of entrepreneurs have neurodiversity or learning impairments, having s brain that approaches solutions in a unique way will allow one to come up with unique and creative solutions that neurotypicals may not have thought of. People with ADHD are remarkable at streamlining systems but often lack the executive function to follow through.
