Book your full ADHD assessment

Visit our website to schedule an appointment for an ADHD assessment. During your private video appointment, the ADHD specialist will ask you questions, review your medical history, and write a report to diagnose ADHD. This usually takes about one hour, but it can be different for each person. Prior to the assessment, you will complete a simple onboarding questionnaire that contains a self-assessment and informant report. For children, we need additional secondary setting evidence, such as school reports or extracurricular activity/ tutor feedback.

Receive an official ADHD diagnosis

If you are diagnosed with ADHD, your approved doctors will provide personalised advice on how to manage your daily life. You will be provided with a detailed assessment report that can be shared with your GP and any relevant service, such as schools and employers, for reasonable adjustments. We also provide extenuating circumstances letters for those struggling with exams due to ADHD symptoms. They will create a treatment plan that fits your specific needs. This will likely include both psychoeducation and medication. The diagnosis will be documented in an official letter and added to your medical history.

Get your ADHD prescription

Your psychiatrist can now write a prescription for medication on the same day as your diagnosis at no extra charge. In London, you may be able to have the prescription delivered on the same day. For other pharmacies, it could take up to 48 hours to arrive for the rest of the UK.

Have ADHD treatment follow-ups

At Private ADHD, we don't just stop after creating a treatment plan for you. We continue to support you with follow-up sessions monthly to titrate you to the optimum dosage of medication. On average, you might need about 3 follow-up sessions with no changes in medication before being considered stable and optimised, at which point we can continue prescribing and monitoring for a reduced price, or additional letters can be provided to your GP in hopes that they will agree to shared care, this depends on your area.  This is to find the right medication or dosage that works for you, along with some holistic coaching around when to take your ADHD medication.

At Private ADHD, we understand that getting an Adult ADHD Assessment can be a challenging but constructive first step towards understanding and treating your ADHD symptoms. Adult ADHD Assessment Process at PrivateADHD

Comprehensive Adult ADHD Assessment and Personalized Care

Before your appointment, you’ll be asked to complete some preliminary forms, including a brief symptom checklist and relevant background information. This helps the clinician gain an objective understanding of how ADHD symptoms may have impacted your life. Being open and detailed about your experiences and challenges will allow the clinician to develop a tailored and effective treatment plan.

Assessments are carried out by a specialist adult ADHD consultant or psychiatrist, and you are welcome to bring a support person to your appointment if you wish. After the assessment, you will receive a detailed report summarising the findings, diagnosis, and a personalised plan for managing ADHD that is specific to your needs.

Book Your ADHD Assessment

Book your private adult ADHD assessment online at a time that works for you.
Appointments are available without long waiting lists, so you can be seen quickly. All assessments are carried out securely via video call, allowing you to attend from the comfort of your own home.

Once booked, you’ll receive confirmation and details of what to expect next.

Complete the ADHD Questionnaire

Before your appointment, you’ll be sent an ADHD self-assessment questionnaire by email.
You can complete this yourself, or ask someone who knows you well to help provide additional insight.

The questionnaire covers your symptoms, daily challenges, and personal history. This information helps your clinician prepare for the assessment and supports an accurate diagnosis and a more personalised treatment plan.

Attend Your Online ADHD Assessment

Your assessment takes place during a one-to-one video consultation with a specialist ADHD clinician.
The session is relaxed and conversational, allowing you to talk openly about your experiences.

You’ll discuss your symptoms in depth, how they affect your daily life, and any concerns you may have. There is no pressure to answer everything perfectly, and it’s completely normal to find some questions difficult. Your clinician will also explain potential treatment and support options.

Receive Your ADHD Report

Within 10 working days of your assessment, you’ll receive a detailed written report by email.
This report clearly explains the outcome of your assessment, including whether you meet the criteria for ADHD and which type has been identified, if applicable.

It also includes an explanation of the findings, recommended treatment options, and an information pack to help you understand your diagnosis and plan your next steps.

Start Treatment and Ongoing Support

If you decide to begin treatment, your care will be fully supported by the clinical team.
This may include follow-up appointments, medication management, and ongoing monitoring of your progress.

Medication can be delivered directly to your door, and shared care arrangements with your GP can be set up where appropriate. Treatment consultations cost £245 (medication costs are charged separately by the pharmacy).

Ongoing support focuses on helping you understand your ADHD, set realistic goals, and develop strategies to manage challenges and build on your strengths.

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurological condition that is present from birth and often runs in families. It is estimated that around 5% of the population may have ADHD, with many people unaware they are affected. Symptoms usually appear in childhood but are often overlooked, which can result in a diagnosis being delayed until adulthood. ADHD is not caused by poor parenting, diet, or screen time.

Research, including large-scale studies using brain imaging, shows that ADHD is associated with differences in brain structure and function. These findings reinforce that ADHD is a genuine neurological condition, not simply a behavioural issue or “label” for difficult behaviour.

ADHD often occurs alongside other neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism spectrum disorders. It has a strong genetic component, though the exact genes involved are not fully understood, making inheritance patterns complex and unpredictable. Advanced imaging, such as functional MRI (fMRI), highlights differences in brain activity between individuals with ADHD and those without, providing further insight into how the condition affects attention, impulse control, and executive function.

What to Expect During an Adult ADHD Assessment

An adult ADHD assessment is a thorough evaluation that gathers information from multiple sources to provide an accurate diagnosis and guide treatment. Here’s what typically happens:

  • Detailed Diagnostic Interview: The clinician will ask about your symptoms, medical history, and daily life to understand how ADHD may be affecting you.
  • Standardised Behaviour Questionnaires: You (and sometimes a close friend or family member) will complete questionnaires to help quantify the presence and severity of symptoms.
  • Review of Past and Current Functioning: Your education, work history, social interactions, and other life experiences will be reviewed to assess how ADHD has impacted different areas of your life.
  • Screening for Co-existing Conditions: The clinician will check for other mental health or neurological conditions that may mimic or co-occur with ADHD, ensuring a thorough assessment.
  • Input from Loved Ones: Where possible, insights from a family member or close friend can provide valuable context on your behaviour and functioning.

The assessment may take one or two sessions depending on individual circumstances. After reviewing all the information, the clinician can determine whether you meet the criteria for ADHD and discuss a personalised treatment plan.

Treatment Plans & Next Steps after ADHD Diagnosis

If you receive a positive ADHD diagnosis, your clinician will discuss personalised next steps to help manage your symptoms and improve your quality of life. Options may include:

Medication: Your specialist can explain available treatments, how they work, potential side effects, and support you through the process. Medication has strong evidence for improving daily functioning and overall well-being in adults with ADHD.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): CBT helps you identify and change negative thought patterns, equipping you with strategies to better manage your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours related to ADHD.

Group Therapy: Group sessions provide a supportive environment to share experiences, develop coping strategies, and learn practical skills from others facing similar challenges.

Couples or Family Therapy: ADHD can affect relationships and family dynamics. Therapy can help improve communication, build trust, and develop strategies to manage family life together.

A comprehensive post-diagnosis plan may combine these approaches to create a tailored programme of support, ensuring you receive the therapy, guidance, and treatment best suited to your needs.

Stimulant Medications

Stimulant medications are the most commonly prescribed treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). They work by increasing the levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly dopamine and norepinephrine, which help improve attention, focus, and impulse control. These medications have a rapid onset of action, often showing effects within 30 minutes to an hour after ingestion.

Non Stimulant Medication

Non-stimulant medications are an alternative for individuals who cannot tolerate stimulants or when stimulants are ineffective. These medications tend to have a slower onset of action and may take several weeks to reach full efficacy. They work by different mechanisms to improve attention, impulse control, and other ADHD symptoms

FAQ arrow

If you are diagnosed with ADHD, you will receive a proposed treatment plan along with options tailored to your diagnosis, as well as an information pack outlining the next steps for implementing your treatment plan.

What if I decide to take medication?

FAQ arrow

For adults with ADHD, treatment often includes stimulant medications such as Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta) and Amphetamine-based drugs (Adderall, Vyvanse). These medications help improve focus, attention, and impulse control and are usually prescribed in higher doses compared to those for children. Non-stimulant options like Atomoxetine (Strattera) are also available, particularly for adults who have additional conditions like anxiety or heart issues.

ADHD titration involves starting with the lowest dose of ADHD medication and gradually increasing it. It may take up to a week to notice a difference in your symptoms when taking the medication.

It’s common to have a few side effects with ADHD medication, but titration is how we avoid this by gradually increasing the dose. Some side effects are reduced appetite, weight loss, transient blood pressure increases, headaches and trouble sleeping.
